Zune HD interface and performance demo video

Looks like Microsoft wasn’t able to keep all the cameras away from the Zune HD at the gdgt launch party in San Francisco after all — we just got tipped this video of a hands-on demo showing the interface and media playback.

The OLED screen looks lovely as always , and the UI appears to be fluid and smooth, but we’re a little bummed that the multitouch browser doesn’t make an appearance. Still, it’s definitely intriguing stuff — hop on past the break to check it out.

Apple And Google Agreed Not To Poach Workers

While Google CEO Eric Schmidt was on Apple’s board of directors, the two companies had an agreement not to hire away each other’s workers, a former Google employee with knowledge of such matters has told us. We have since confirmed this with other ex-Googlers. This was not a written agreement, and was considered non-official, but it was well-known and followed within the recruitment division of Google, we’re told.

This news follows a report by The Washington Post in early June that the Justice Department was looking into this very issue. That report cited sources close to the investigation stating that the government was looking for possible antitrust violations among several tech companies, including Google and Apple, with regard to their hiring policies. But that report didn’t say whether or not it was actually taking place. According to our sources, it is.

New Facebook application for iPhone “almost done”

One Most popular Application people needs on iphone, FACEBOOK,,,, lots of users waiting the next version of this application,, and now wait almost over.

“The app is pretty much done – we’re just working on translating it into a bunch of languages,” Facebook developer Joe Hewitt wrote tonight on Twitter.

iphoneshot2That means that shortly, we’ll have access to the much-improved app which is scheduled to have features such as a News Feed that is more like the one on Facebook’s site, the ability to “like” items and a new customizable home screen. More importantly, it will also have video support for the iPhone 3GS, something which Hewitt threw-in at the last second, unexpectedly. And perhaps best of all, the app will have the ability to manage events, finally.

But don’t get too worked up just yet. We asked Hewitt if “pretty much done” meant next week perhaps. His response: “Can’t be sure – translating could take a while. I’ve been avoiding predicting an actual release date“. And of course even when the app is done, Facebook still has to submit it for approval in the App Store, and as we all know, that can be a crapshoot. We could see it next week, we could see it 6 months from now. Though, Apple does seem to do a pretty good job pushing important apps like this one through quickly. Funny how that works, isn’t it?

Facebook is also finally working on an Android app. That should drop any day now.

LG’s GD910 watchphone really cheaper

We’ve seen LG’s G910 releasing last year, and this is good because as you can clearly see and watch other person,,,basically it’s a videophone in a watch and this watch still that concept doesn’t get your gadget senses tingling you’re probably dead inside.

we were somewhat afraid when early reports indicated that the couture-phone’s exclusive partner in Europe, Orange, was going to be engaging in a bit of price gouging, selling the thing at a whopping £1,000 / €1,144 (about $1,500 at the time — now well over $1,600 thanks to our flimsy currency). The official price has finally been confirmed, and it’s an ever so slightly more palatable figure of €899 ($1,290) when signing up for a 12 or 24 month contract.

Upon further investigation, it was finally declared that the server went down because of a denial-of-service attack as posted on the twitter blog:

On this otherwise happy Thursday morning, Twitter is the target of a denial of service attack.

The Twitter engineers team is working on the problem as said by the Twitter blog:

We are defending against this attack now and will continue to update our status blog as we continue to defend and later investigate.

Though Twitter is back but users are experiencing unusual delays and time-outs. Highlighting the matter, the twitter status blog says:

Now 911 call center now accepting texts from iphone in any emergency

Now these days callers and other people can now text for help request for fire and some thing else,,,,to police or ambulance,,, to the emergency call center in Black Hawk County, Unlike voice calls, however, the 911 operator can’t get your location from a text message, meaning that the caller must says that the zip code and city,,, and exect location on phone,, and many time he is confused about all things,, and now i think is better service for people.

Currently, only wireless subscribers using this facility affiliated with T-Mobile. can use the service. Other future upgrades include the ability to accept video and picture messages. All the operators ask is that you refrain from sending them those silly chain text messages –over all this is good for every one.

Microfluidic chip does 1,000 parallel chemical links reactions,, look WOW

We’d never considered a career in biochemistry until we saw this wild beast of a chemical microprocessor. Microfluidic chips, used to test chemical reactions and properties, have been known to be smaller, but they’ve never before been quite this powerful.

The result of a joint study between California State University, UCLA and China’s Wuhan University, the “integrated microfluidic device” is capable of performing 1,024 in situ chemical reactions at a time, making the researcher’s life, oh, about 1,024 times easier. Most importantly though, costly enzymes previously used for a single test can now be split up into hundreds and tested simultaneously, which should pave the way for exponentially faster and easier medical research. It’s not clear when these will be widely available, but we’re sure PhDs around the world are trying to order one as we speak.
